As Film-coating and Film-forming Material

HPMC has good film-forming properties. The film it forms is transparent and tough, and it is not easy to stick during production. Especially for drugs that are easy to absorb moisture and are unstable, using it as an isolation layer can greatly improve the stability of the drug and prevent discoloration of the tablet.

As Binder and Disintegrant

As a binder, HPMC can reduce the contact angle of the drug, making the drug easy to moisten, and it can expand hundreds of times after absorbing water, so it can significantly improve the dissolution rate or release rate of the tablet.

 

As suspending agent

High-viscosity HPMC is used as a suspending agent to prepare a suspending liquid preparation, which has a good suspending effect, is easy to redisperse, does not stick to the wall, and has fine flocculated particles.

 

As Retardant, Controlled release agent and Channel agent

High-viscosity grades may be used to retard the release of drugs from a matrix at levels of 10–80% w/w in tablets and capsules. Low-viscosity grades as the channel agents used in sustained and controlled release preparations, the therapeutic effect of this kind of tablet for initial dose can be reached quickly and drug sustained or controlled release, thus effective blood concentrations are maintained in the body.

As Thickening Agent and Protective Colloid

HPMC used as a thickening agent for concentration of 0.45% ~ 1.0%. HPMC can also increase the stability of hydrophobic adhesive. As a protective colloid, it can prevent droplets and particles from coalescing or agglomerating, thus inhibiting the formation of sediments.

As Capsule Wall Material

HPMC capsules have the advantages of pure natural, safe and pollution-free, low moisture content, good toughness, not crunchy, and stable disintegration performance.

When used in the preparation of HPMC capsules, it can be compatible with most excipients and has no cross-linking reaction, Maillard reaction and condensation reaction after filling.
